Vancouver Shaw House designs with West Coast rain in mind

Patkau Architects designed a home located on a narrow waterfront property in English Bay integrating the natural geography of the West Coast. The Shaw house is constructed almost entirely of reinforced concrete to withstand forthcoming seismic activity particular to the area. For the common dreary rainfall typical of Vancouver, the cement is painted white to offer a brightness to the home. The home is complete with muted materials and colors that demonstrate a thoughtful designer’s attention to the place of environment.
